Island hopping

“Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before.” – Dalai Lama

Our day of island hopping began early, and we set off in a fast boat to hop around the Adriatic. We were quite happy as our boat sped past others!

First stop was the island of Bisevo and the Blue Cave.

There are hundreds of people visiting the cave each day, but the system for waiting works quite well. You are given a ticket with a number on it and then can wander around, get a coffee or sit in the shade until your number is displayed. You then get in a small boat to go inside the cave. This was much better than standing in a line in the heat.

The cave entrance is quite small and you have to duck to enter.

There is an opening on the ceiling of the cave through which sunlight gets in and creates an iridescent blue glowing effect all around the cave. And yes it really is that blue!

Next stops the Emerald Lagoon and the island of Vis for jumping off the boat and swimming in the warm Adriatic water.

Another island, Marosevic, and a stop for an indulgent lunch.

To finish the day was some sightseeing on the island of Hvar with its fortress on top of the hill and cute little town.

One thing we have noticed about Croatia is that it is usual for a bill to be handed to you by a waitperson who says “my service is not included” or “please tip if my service was good” or a prominent notice will be displayed, such as the one on our boat.
